Questions
Is my data private?
Your notes stay on your Mac. There’s no account, and your notes are never sent to us.
When you ask a question, only the notes needed for the answer go to the AI, through your own OpenRouter account. Before anything leaves your Mac, passwords, keys, PINs and card numbers are swapped for placeholders. It catches nearly everything, but think of it as a safety net rather than a promise.
You can hide whole folders, and they are never sent to the AI. One limit: a screenshot goes to the AI as a picture, so a password visible on screen can’t be hidden.
Your reminders stay in Apple Reminders. When you ask about tasks or plans, the titles and due dates of open reminders are included. Insights sends numbers, note titles and reminder titles once a day to write its short summary, never the text of your notes. Suggested questions are written from note titles and folders, never their text. The daily find notification shows note titles only.
Does it work with Apple Reminders?
Yes. The Reminders tab shows your week at a glance. Drag reminders onto a day, move many at once, or let Plan My Week spread the overdue ones over the coming days. Changes go straight to Apple Reminders, so they show up on your iPhone too.
Reminders also appear in search and in answers, and you can ask it to add one. You approve it first.
Can I try it first?
Yes. Download it for free and use everything for your first 30 answers and new notes. There’s no time limit.
After that, search stays free for good. Asking, new notes, capture, dictation, Insights and Plan My Week need a licence, and the app shows you how to get one.
Do I have to pay a subscription?
No. Notes2ai is free to try and costs $24 once to unlock, plus tax where it applies, and updates are included. The AI is paid through your own OpenRouter account, usually a few cents a question.
What’s an OpenRouter key?
OpenRouter is a service that gives you access to the best AI models with one account. Your key is like a password for that account. You paste it into the app once and it stays on your Mac.
You pay OpenRouter, not us. A few dollars of credit lasts a long time.
- Create an account at openrouter.ai and add a few dollars.
- Create a key at openrouter.ai/keys.
- Paste it into Notes2ai the first time you open it.
How does it work?
- Your Mac finds the right notes. It searches by words and by meaning, without the AI.
- The AI reads just those notes and writes the answer, with a link to every note it used.
- Discover works the same way. Your Mac spots possible connections, and the AI checks a few of them.
Can it change my notes?
Only when you say so. Ask it to change a note and you see the change first. Nothing is saved until you approve it, and you can always undo.
Any answer can be saved as a new note with ⌘S.
Can I save links, files and screenshots as notes?
Yes. Drop a link, some text, a PDF, a Word file or a picture onto the window, or press ⌃⌥⌘N in any app to capture what you’re looking at. You get a tidy note with the key points and the source, and you check it before it’s saved.
Or press ⌥⌘N and just talk. It becomes a titled note.
Can Claude Code or other AI tools use it?
Yes. With one click in the app, Claude Code, Codex and similar tools can search and read your notes. They can’t change or delete anything, and passwords stay hidden from them too.
Does it work offline?
No. Answers come from the AI, so you need an internet connection.
How do I get it?
- Download it. It’s free to try, with no account.
- Drag it into Applications and open it. The first time, your Mac asks if you want to open an app from the internet. Click Open.
- Paste your OpenRouter key.
- Allow access to Notes when your Mac asks. That’s how the app reads your notes.
- Give it a few minutes to read your notes the first time. After that it’s instant.
- Liked it? Buy a licence and paste the key into the app to unlock everything. Lost your key? Enter your email on the thanks page.
Does it update itself?
Yes. Updates download and install by themselves, and only genuine updates from us are accepted.
Can I earn by recommending it?
Yes. If you write, post or teach about Mac productivity, you get 50% of every sale you refer, $12 on each $24 licence. It runs through Whop: join the affiliate program.
